An AI agent that doesn't understand your platform will change the wrong thing in the wrong place

~ 3 min read

Ask a general-purpose AI assistant to “update the homepage banner” on a StoreConnect store, and it has to guess a lot. Is the banner in a theme file, a content block or a Salesforce record? Should it edit, stage or publish? Does the change need approval? Every one of those guesses is a chance to change the wrong thing, in the wrong place, without anyone reviewing it.

The storeconnect-platform skill is the orientation every agent gets first. It teaches how StoreConnect fits together, where each kind of change belongs and which specialist skill to use next.

Agents that guess at structure produce work that almost fits

Most AI mistakes on a platform aren’t wild. They’re close. Stack Overflow’s 2025 survey found 66% of developers are frustrated by AI solutions that are “almost right, but not quite,” and 45% say debugging AI-generated code takes more time1. On a commerce platform, the close-but-wrong change is the one that ships.

This skill explains StoreConnect’s shape to the agent: Salesforce is the system of record, administrators manage products, content and permissions in Salesforce, and storefront themes render the customer experience in Liquid2. It then routes each request to the right one of 12 specialist skills, so a POS question doesn’t get a theme answer.

The same task done in a different order breaks things

On StoreConnect, the order of operations matters. The skill sets a tool-preference order, explains what only Salesforce tooling can do and teaches the agent how built-in sync behaves, so it re-reads a record rather than repeating a write that simply isn’t visible yet2.

Repeated or out-of-order writes are exactly how bad data gets into a system. Gartner estimates poor data quality costs organizations an average of $12.9 million a year3.

An agent without an approval gate is an unmanaged risk

The most important thing the platform skill teaches isn’t technical. It’s the human-approval gate on publishing. IBM’s 2025 research found 97% of organizations reporting an AI-related breach lacked proper AI access controls4.

StoreConnect’s model is simple. The agent signs in as you and inherits your permissions, StoreConnect stays the system of record, and write actions land in the same review flow your team already uses5. The platform skill makes sure the agent knows that approval step exists and never works around it.

Start every agent with the map, not a guess

Every other StoreConnect skill builds on this one. It’s the difference between an assistant that knows where it is and one that’s wandering.

Get the skills plugin. The platform skill installs with the rest of the StoreConnect catalog for Claude, Codex, Cursor, Copilot, Gemini CLI, Antigravity, Kiro and Grok Build. It works offline and touches nothing on its own.
